Dual-fuel heating rebate: up to $4,000, or up to $8,000 income-qualified

Home Performance Contractor Network logo

A dual-fuel heating system is a heat pump combined with a new, compatible gas furnace. The heat pump heats and cools your home, and the furnace takes over in cold weather. For this rebate, the switchover is set at 5°C or lower in the Lower Mainland.

  • For replacing a gas furnace that is at least 15 years old and is your home’s main heat. A new furnace on its own doesn’t qualify.
  • Up to $4,000 for FortisBC customers. Up to $8,000 if your household is income-qualified (income limits by household size; home 10+ years old, up to 3,500 sq ft, assessed under $1.2 million). One or the other, not both.
  • Installed on or after October 15, 2026 by a licensed gas contractor listed for this rebate on the Home Performance Contractor Network. Pro West is listed.
  • You apply to FortisBC within six months of your paid invoice. The application asks for your invoice plus two forms your contractor fills in: the heat-load calculation and the commissioning sheet. On systems we install, we give you all three.
Full eligibility details and how to find your furnace’s age

Who qualifies: both options

  • Your gas furnace is at least 15 years old and it’s your home’s main heat.
  • Your home is a year-round primary residence: house, duplex, triplex, row home, townhouse or mobile home on a permanent foundation.
  • The new system is installed on or after October 15, 2026.
  • You’re replacing a furnace, not an existing dual-fuel system. Warranty replacements and insurance claims don’t qualify.

Income-qualified option only

Everything on the left, plus:

  • Household income below FortisBC’s limit for your household size (from $51,100 for one person to $135,100 for seven or more), with proof of income.
  • Home at least 10 years old and no larger than 3,500 sq ft.
  • Assessed value below $1.2 million.
  • One active residential FortisBC gas account, and you own only one property in BC.

What the install needs

  • A new central ducted heat pump and a new, compatible high-efficiency gas furnace, matched as one system on FortisBC’s qualified list, run by a connected thermostat.
  • A program-approved heat-load calculation to size it. Rule-of-thumb sizing isn’t accepted.
  • The heat pump set to hand over to the furnace at 5°C or colder (Lower Mainland setting).
  • A Technical Safety BC licensed gas contractor who is an HPCN member listed for this rebate. Pro West is.

Good to know

  • FortisBC adds a two-upgrade bonus ($300 standard, $350 income-qualified) if you also do another eligible home upgrade. Ask us before counting on it.
  • This rebate can’t be combined with other FortisBC, provincial or federally funded rebates for the same upgrade. One space-heating rebate per home.
  • FortisBC may ask to inspect the installation, in person or by video call.

How to find your furnace’s age

  1. Find the rating plate: a sticker or metal label inside the furnace’s front door, or on the side of the cabinet.
  2. Look for a manufacture date. Many labels show the month and year.
  3. No date? The serial number usually holds it, but every brand codes it differently.

Easiest: take a photo of the label and email it to info@prowestheating.com, or call 604-990-7550. We’ll tell you how old it is.

Rebate questions homeowners ask

Which rebate should I ask about?

Start with how you heat your home now. Gas furnace that’s 15 years or older: the FortisBC dual-fuel rebate. Want to remove gas heating completely and income-qualified: CleanBC. Electric baseboards: BC Hydro. Not sure? Call us and we’ll work it out with you.

Can Pro West install a system for the FortisBC dual-fuel rebate?

Yes. The rebate needs a licensed gas contractor listed for it on the Home Performance Contractor Network, and Pro West is listed. On systems we install, we give you the invoice and the installer paperwork your application asks for.

Is the rebate the same as my installation price?

No. Your quote is the price of the installation. A rebate is paid to you by the program if your project qualifies.

Does a new furnace on its own qualify for the dual-fuel rebate?

No. The rebate is for a heat pump and a new gas furnace installed together as a matched system, replacing a gas furnace that’s at least 15 years old.

Will I get the largest amount advertised?

Not always. Amounts are maximums, and what you get depends on the program, your home, your household and the system installed. We check the rules before you count any rebate in your budget.

Do I need to apply before the install?

Depends on the program. CleanBC needs pre-registration before the install. The FortisBC and BC Hydro rebates are applied for after the install, within six months of your paid invoice.

Can I combine rebates?

Don’t assume you can. The FortisBC rebates can’t be combined with other FortisBC, provincial or federally funded rebates for the same upgrade, and only one space-heating rebate per home is allowed. We check the rules for your project.

My furnace is old but I don’t know its age. Can I still ask?

Yes. The age is usually on the furnace’s rating plate. Here’s how to find it, or send us a photo of the label and we’ll check it for you.

My water heater has already stopped working. Can I still get the water heater rebate?

No. FortisBC requires the tank you’re replacing to be in working order, so it pays to plan ahead. If yours has already failed, call us and we’ll help you with a replacement.

Is this the new federal heat pump rebate?

No, not yet. The National Heat Pump Rebate opens through an online portal in early 2027, but eligible heat pumps installed on or after November 1, 2026 can be claimed once it opens. Amounts, eligibility and the list of eligible heat pumps are due November 1, 2026. See the update below.

Federal heat pump rebate: opens early 2027

Updated October 26, 2026. The Government of Canada’s National Heat Pump Rebate opens through an online portal in early 2027: a grant of $2,000, or up to $10,000 for low- to median-income households, for switching to an eligible electric heat pump, with no energy audit required. Eligible heat pumps installed on or after November 1, 2026 can be claimed once the portal opens. Rebate amounts, eligibility and the list of eligible heat pumps are due to be published November 1, 2026. Whether a dual-fuel system qualifies isn’t published yet, and FortisBC’s rebates can’t be combined with federally funded ones, so ask us before counting on both. Official updates on canada.ca
