BC Hydro Power Smart
The BC Hydro Power Smart program offers rebates for homeowners who upgrade their existing space heating system to a heat pump. Unlike traditional heating and cooling systems, which convert fuel or electricity directly into heat, a heat pump transfers heat from one place to another, making it a more energy-efficient choice compared to electric furnaces or baseboard heaters.
You could be eligible for up to $7,000 in combined rebates for replacing your current electric heating system with a heat pump. This includes up to $2,000 from BC Hydro and up to $5,000 from the federal government’s Canada Greener Homes Grant.- If you’re currently heated by natural gas, oil or propane, you could be eligible for up to $11,000 in combined heat pump rebates for switching to an electric heat pump 1. Rebates are available while funding lasts.
You could be eligible for up to $7,000 in combined rebates for replacing your current electric heating system with a heat pump. This includes up to $2,000 from BC Hydro and up to $5,000 from the federal government’s Canada Greener Homes Grant.
Clean BC Better Homes
The CleanBC Better Homes program offers rebates to homeowners who upgrade their homes to be more energy-efficient. The program has two separate rebate options: the CleanBC Better Homes and Home Renovation Rebate Program and the CleanBC Income Qualified Program. The two have different eligibility criteria but most revolve around the following:
- The property must be a year-round primary residence that is at least 12 months old.
- The property must have a total assessed value at or under $1,222,000 in the BC Assessment listing for the address of the applicant’s home in the year of program registration.
